Don’t “fall” into the comparison trap…

Don't compare yourselfto others.God doesn't.

Genesis 1:27

New International Version

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

You got it. God created each of us in his own image. He didn’t create you in the image of your neighbor or your cousin, so why would we compare ourselves to them? Strive to compare yourself to only one being, God. All other comparisons will surely bring disappointment.

Christianity and racism can’t co-exist – tune in each day this week for a short reading

This weekend our church message was on Tearing Down the Walls of Racism. This seems like the perfect time in our culture to address such a topic. Please know that I approach this topic with a loving heart and with one that hopes to unite and not divide. I should tell you that I write this from the perspective of a caucasian and that I do not pretend to understand what prejudices other races and ethnicities have encountered. I do come to you with an empathetic spirit and as one who longs for us as Christians to be models of Christ. We are, after all, ONE in the body of Christ.

I think it’s important to look at some bible passages before we begin further discussion on this topic.

From the beginning, we know that God created us in His image. Every person who has, currently is and ever will walk this Earth, was created in God’s image. Simply put, all human beings are from a single family. Nothing excludes you from being party of this family.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26-28

Jesus died for each of us, regardless of nationality or race
One of the most iconic bible verses reiterates this fact:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

It was the 1980’s and Carol and her husband had just moved to a predominately white neighborhood and community. They were an African-American family. They joined a new church and loved it. While at a bible study one Sunday afternoon, a woman at Carol’s table, with very honest and well-meaning intentions asked Carol, do you prefer to be referred to as black or African-American?

Tune in Friday to see Carol’s response.

Monday Motivator…. What’s your calling?

For I was hungry and you gave me something

Last night, I delivered the packets that we made for our first ever #BlessingBlitzForHomelessness to a local organization. If you aren’t familiar with our packets, here is a brief summary:

*This summer my children and I decided to assemble packets that we could hand out to homeless folks as we encounter them in our community (see photo below)

*We organized an event where people could help us assemble packets

*We organized a sign up genius ( to sign up workers and donations

*Everyone who helped our mission in some way received Blessing Blitz packets to keep in their cars to hand out to those in need

Here is a finished product

The kids also colored pages to be included in each packet

Our packets were donated to Fed with Faith, a local organization that serves as advocates to the homeless population in many facets. Last night they were organizing a meal (which smelled delicious!) to be served to those in need. I am always humbled when I see a large group of people giving selflessly of their own time. This organization is spear-headed by a husband and wife team who saw a need and took action. They felt God’s calling and listened.

What is God calling you to do?

He has amazing plans for you.

Your life could be forever changed.

My new favorite youtube channel!

As I sat down to write something today regarding homelessness, I prayed for God to lead my heart. He lead me to “Give Back Films” on youtube and a video where a guy goes around giving homeless folks $100. He not only gave them $100, but he gave them hope in humanity and hope in a God who loves them.

It’s a short video. I encourage you to watch it and share. What if we designated “$100 Day” where we all gave one homeless person $100 in the name of God and the hope that we have in him? Imagine the message we would send?! Could be my next project……hmmm…….

T-19 days until #BlessingBlitzforHomelessness !!

We are 19 days away from our first ever #BlessingBlitzforHomelessness. My children are beginning to get very excited and asking lots of questions. They are baffled to learn that not everyone is as fortunate as we are to have a … Continue reading

Frogs. Have you ever gotten warts from them? I haven’t and I have held lots of frogs in my lifetime. Some of us grew up believing that same lie though, didn’t we? Our parents and grandparents innocently fed us this lie (probably because they just didn’t want us holding them in the first place). After hearing that same lie over and over again, we begin to believe that it is actually true.

Someone else feeds us lies. His name is Satan and his goal is very much to distance us from God. He speaks nothing BUT lies. Everyday he feeds you the same lies, hoping that after a while, just like the frog and warts lie, you’ll begin to believe it as truth. Satan’s lies are very specific each individual. Your lie may be that your marriage will never improve, that your kids will never turn their lives around or that you just aren’t talented enough to find a new job and leave the one you hate.

My challenge this week to you is to flip the lie that the evil one fills your head with. Begin to fill your spirit with the word of God and your mind will soon follow. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to you through the healing powers of God’s word. God’s word has the power to tear down the walls of Satan’s lies.

…how incredibly great his power is to help those who believe him. It is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead…

Ephesians 1:19-20 TLB

The lie that Satan tells me (among others I”m sure) is that I am not a good public speaker. I have held many leadership roles in my life and have certainly had plenty of opportunity to embrace this skill. I have done fine at some points and really struggled with this at other times. I have used a particular bible verse to combat this lie. I know God wants me to succeed and this bible verse reminds me of this:

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength

Philippians 4:13

This verse may be your verse too as it is one that can be applied, quite honestly, to almost any situation. God doesn’t say ‘you only have Christ’s strength while driving through rush hour traffic or during a job interview’. It says  ‘I can do ALL things’.

I challenge you this week to come up with the bible verse that you will bathe you heart and mind in. His words are alive in you and have the power to reverse the lies you are being fed. Your life will change.

Please comment below what YOUR empowering bible verse is. Your verse may be just what another reader needs to see.

Monday motivator: love yourself!

Sometimes we wake up in a self-deprecating state, thinking,  “I’m unattractive, I’m not as smart as my co-workers or I”m slow”. Whatever the reason, LET IT GO!  If you can’t love yourself first, you will be unable to fully love your neighbor as God commands us to do.

God wasn’t having a bad day when he made you. He made you with intention. You have your own specific gifts and talents that no one on this Earth has.

I challenge you this week to work on loving yourself. Be your own cheerleader (minus the uniform).  I have created this note for myself to hang on my bathroom mirror. You could put it in your car, at work, in your locker at school or as your main screen on your phone. I pray that this week we can begin to let negative thoughts out and bring positive ones in!

-Remember to liveHislove,

Which direction should we go?

My relationship with God is constantly changing and I think that’s the way it should be. Sure, he’s my best friend, but I long for our relationship to be an even deeper one. But should our relationship remain strictly a vertical one? By that, I mean should it just be between Him and I alone?

Today, I pray that God would give me the strength and wisdom to take our relationship from a vertical one to a horizontal one. I pray that he would give you and I the words to share his gospel with the masses and move beyond our relationship of just 2. Have I really done my job on Earth if I haven’t told at least one person of His great love? The news of his saving grace should be so overwhelming and life changing that I can’t stop telling people about it. What if that one conversation I have with the lady in the check out line behind me who casually strikes up a conversation with me results in her accepting Jesus Christ? Lord, I pray today that you would empower us to be life changers and difference makers in the lives of others. I want to take your love horizontal. It’s more that just about me and you. It’s about all mankind.
